Increased Restrictions

The Territorial Committee for High Impact Public Health Alerts of Almería met yesterday to analyse the epidemiological data on the incidence of Covid-19 in the province.

Thus, the authorities have decided that Zurgena passes alert level 4 in grade 2, so we will continue with the perimeter closure and will also have to close all bars and shops that are not considered essential.

These measures will be in force from Monday, February 1.

Latest Covid

3 more cases in Zurgena recorded in the past 24 hours, with one more recovered. These figures place our village at the highest level of risk (on the matrix of numbers of population).

I have been asked to stress to everyone the importance of complying with the measures to mitigate the spread as it has been reported that in certain circumstances people are not complying with the social distancing eg in bars, restaurants etc. In light of this I and the Mayor have asked the Police to pay periodic visits to such places to enforce the rules.

The Police are working very hard at the moment to try and ensure people stay within the rules your compliance would greatly assist them and ourselves in reducing the dangers from this virus

We are led to believe that next week, at last, the works of the Project of “Improvements of networks and pavements in roads in Zurgena will begin. Work N ° 87 P.I.M 2018-2BI ”, work which we  requested in 2017 and that, for reasons beyond our control, have not yet been carried out.

No Vaccine Information

I am getting many requests regarding the timing/process for the roll out of the vaccination programme in Spain.

We (the Town Hall) have now knowledge yet of the planned process as it is central government that is handling it.

As soon as we hear anything I will post on here, Facebook and the mobile application Living Zurgena. The latter of which I think is now working again, as it should, after a hiatus of 2 months!

This information from the Daily Telegraph outlines some of the issues.

Todays Covid Figure and Closure

Todays covid case count for Zurgena is 24 active cases.

The rolling 14 days figure is 632 leaving us in the extreme high risk group.

I typed the above for publication and then was, almost immediately, informed that, due to the increase in cases, the perimeter of Zurgena municipality is now closed and you can only leave or enter the municipality for justifiable reasons. This comes into effect at midnight Wednesday 27th January.

Stay safe everyone.

Following a question from a resident;

this means that we are confined to the municipal boundary eg you can move between our villages, Alfoquia, Zurgena, Cucador, Llanos del Peral, Los Menchones, Carasoles etc but you cannot go out of, or enter, the municipal boundary of Zurgena.

Doctors Surgery

The Doctor of the La Alfoquía surgery has contacted the City Council to asked us to send to you all request.

She asks that any neighbours who wish to  go to the consultation room do so solely for reasons of illness. If the reason you need to visit is to collect test results or any other reason that can be delayed then please wait a couple of weeks . She makes clear that the sick are still to be treated as a priority.

Bando from Town Hall

Due to the epidemiological situation in the municipalities bordering our locality, the population is recommended TO SELF-CONFINE HOME and to avoid as far as possible social contacts with people who do not live together.

Likewise, the individual responsibility of each neighbour is appealed to and the need for us all to respect the safety regulations that we all know: use mask, safe distance washing hands etc.

The recommendations made by this council are the following

Recommendation not to leave the place of residence making only exits to go to work or perform strictly necessary tasks

It is recommended to avoid encounters and reunions with people who do not belong to the basic family unit of coexistence.

We remember that it is the job of each and every one of us to comply with the sanitary regulations to be able to progress and minimize as much as possible the positive cases that could occur in our municipality.

Please bear in mind the difficult situation and comply as best you can

Travel to and from Spain

I have posted below information for the Gov.uk website regarding travel to and from Spain. I am indebted to a local resident for forwarding this to me for your information.

Relating to the recent news reports regarding the difficulties of UK Citizens, legally registered as Resident in Spain, being refused boarding of transport, particularly airlines to return back home here, the UK Govt issued the following report on its website (Govt.UK/Living in Spain) yesterday 12h January 2021.

It has a link to the Spanish Government's own issue of the new post-Brexit Regulations.  Click on that link and it will take you to the exact page.  It is printed in English and Spanish and shows photos of the actual documents - in addition to a valid passport - that British Citizens residing in Spain will need to have with them for travel and return to Spain.  The photos show the acceptable Certificates of Residency which are:  the A4 size Green Residential Certificate, the small green Extrajaneros card, and the new TIE.
I, personally, have printed-off copies of this Directive and plan to carry it with me as, when, and if I plan to travel.  Here's the route via the web:
Go to: Gov.UK/Living in Spain
From Contents list choose 'Visas and Residency'
In the last paragraph under this heading is the link to the Spanish Govt Directive, which I quote here for convenience:
If you have trouble using your green EU residence certificate, read the

This explains which documents you can use to prove your residence and Withdrawal Agreement rights in Spain. You can refer to this informative note when dealing with service providers.
You can exchange your paper EU residence document for the new TIE but you are not required to.

Update on Covid

Once again we emphasise how important it is to minimise social or other meetings and to comply with the mandatory use of masks and interpersonal distance to avoid and control infections by Covid 19.

Our town continues to have 6 infected people for the past days, but the reality is that in the province and in neighbouring towns the cases continue to increase rapidly, so we ask all of you to comply with the restrictions.

From the City Council we continue with the disinfection tasks and support to schools in cleaning and disinfection tasks, among other measures that the

Government team adopted and continues to maintain, but the responsibility to tackle this pandemic is individual and on each and every one of us so we ask you to please take all the necessary precautions to get through this third wave in the best possible way.

We send lots of encouragement to the 6 infected people and wish them a speedy recovery.

New Rules re Covid

The Junta de Andalucía has announced new measures, for the region, in force for two weeks from this Monday 11 January (midnight Sunday night) until and including 24 January, to help curb the spread of coronavirus.

The measures include the closure of shops and businesses at 8pm.

Bars and restaurants must close at 6pm.

Cafeterias can stay open until 8pm as long as they don't serve alcohol after 6pm.

Establishments will be able to stay open for the collection of takeaways until 9.30pm and food can be delivered to homes until 11.30pm.

The night curfew has been brought forward to 10pm until 6am across the region.

Moreno said that for now travel from province to province within Andalucía is still permitted.

The regional border separating Andalucía from the rest of Spain remains closed for non-essential travel, after the measure was partially lifted only for the holiday period.

The ban on movement between the eight towns currently closed in the Campo de Gibraltar remains in place.

New Drainage for Av 19 de Octubre

In the past month, the rainwater collector for Avd. 19 de Octubre has been cleaned and put into Active operation.

A reinforced concrete adaptable drain has been built at the entrance of the existing collector to filter the fall of materials from the mountains that surround it. This action is intended to end the problems that were caused on the road and the residents of the Zurgena Mirador Building.
