Aqua Aerobics

As many of you know June Hamilton ran an aqua aerobics class last year throughout the summer and it was enjoyed by many of you.

She is starting the class again next Tuesday 3rd July at the municipal pool in La Alfoquia up by the football pitch. The classes are of three quarters of an hour duration and start at 1000am until 1045 each Tuesday and Thursday. The cost of each class is €4.

June is an excellent fitness tutor (at least so my wife tell me!!) No - actually I have attended the aqua classes and here really were both enjoyable and beneficial.

New people are welcome. Just pop along and join in.

PGOU

I had a lengthy discussion with our Mayor about the situation regarding our progress with the PGOU on Monday.

He was undecided as to the best course of action, regarding informing the residents of its progress and current situation, however, after we had discussed it, he agreed that barring any problems over the summer we should hold a public meeting late September (once holidays are over and things have settled down) and make it an open meeting to all residents and have our technical people present so that everyone can be informed and raise any questions.

I will of course publicise this meeting as soon s we agree a date.

Another Great Donation

Today the Town Hall received, on behalf of the schools and the Craft Club a huge amount of valuable arts and crafts bits and pieces.

These were donated by John and Shelagh Copeland of Cucador. John recently shut his Arts and Crafts shop, Serendipity, in Albox and the stock which was left, which amounted to a goodly value, has been donated for the use of the schools and the villagers.

The Mayor Luis Dias Garcia and the Deputy Mayor Lola Antas both received this donation and said, ¨this donation will be very much enjoyed by the children and residents in the future.¨

Today we, the councillors of Zurgena, welcomed the Delegate for culture and tourism to the village in furtherance of our request for funds to improve village Sports Hall to the tune of €39,000 for the benefit of all our residents. We are also asking for projects to cover the old mill building and the clock tower.

Water Yesterday and Fire Ban and Fiesta Dates.

Sorry but I have been away for a week and just got back last night. Thats why no posts.

The reason the water supply was interrupted for most of yesterday was due to a main pipe burst near the riverbed in Zurgena. I did not find out about it until after it he'd been reconnected.

Just a reminder that, following advice from the Fire Service, no outdoor BBQs or open fires are allowed in the countryside from the 1st June until at least end of October.

Fiesta dates for this year are as follows,

La Alfoquia 13th, 14th, 16th, July

Zurgena 30th, 31st  August 1st September.

Another Fantastic Flamenco Evening

Last night in the theatre in Zurgena almost 100 people enjoyed another fantastic performance of traditional Flamenco performed by a group including an exceptional guitarist, a 16 year old prodigy on Flute a well recognised Flamenco singer and our own Francesca and the most accomplished male Flamenco dancer from Granada.

All the after show comments were highly praising of the show. Even the Spanish lady (Anthonia) who opens the theatre has asked that they return for another show but I think we need to leave it a few months.

I am attaching below a few photographs of the evening.
