Flamenco

This Saturday we are having the Flamenco Experience Show in the theatre in Zurgena.

This show which is to be presented by top quality Flamenco performers was sold out within days of releasing the tickets. In fact we could have sold them 2 or 3 times over.

As a result of the demand for this show I have discussed with the Mayor whether we could organise a second show later in the year. I had to ask as we have to finance a small amount of the equipment. After a discussion of the value of this to the village he agreed.

We will discuss and identify a suitable date and I will post on here, probably next week.

International Womens Day Presentations

This evening (Saturday 17th March) in recognition of International Womens Day a presentation was made to women of the village who had contributed to the community in various ways.

Nearly 20 women were so recognised, from a 96 year old from Los Llanos Del Peral, to a thirty  something from Zurgena.

Each was presented to the audience (which numbered over 80) and was given a ceramic plaque as a memento.

I was privileged to once again be able to present, to another British resident this year,.

Mrs Julie Hawkins, who had been nominated for her charitable acts and work in both the British and Spanish communities, was the recipient from our community this year.

Possible Interruption to Water

There is a large water pipe burst in Cucador just below the bridge. The last time this occurred the water was cut off to most of the area to the north of Cucador and part of Los Carasoles and was off for hours.

Just posting this as a warning of a potential interruption to the water supply for those areas. I do not know for sure, that it will occur, but thought it better to warn.

Calling all Walkers & Gabriels Body found

Firstly the sad news that the Guardia Civil found the body of little 8 year Gabriel in the boot of a car, owned by the girlfriend of his father, this morning.

Now I have an idea which I would like to progress this year. I know many of you enjoy the pleasure of walking around various parts of our municipality and I thought that it would be a good idea if we created a publication listing a selection of such walks.

Now the difficult bit! I am looking for assistance from any of you who are keen walkers.

What I am looking for is people who could supply a sketch plan of a walk, with directions/instructions and distances. All walks submitted would be checked to ensure accessibility and those selected would go into the book, with a credit included on the cover for each contributor.

There is no rush for this but I would like to have a draft ready for early to middle of summer. If you think you could help please let me know.

Searchers Update 2

A shirt, which is believed to have been worn by Gabriel at the time of his disappearance, has been found near a sewerage treatment plant 20 minutes distant from where he was last seen. It has been identified as the one he was wearing but DNA analysis is being carried out on it. The search of the 6 water tanks at this site will be searched today poor visibility caused that search to be postponed last night. The whole site has been cordoned off for a full forensic examination.

We have sent a team of our Civil Protection volunteers to Nijar to assist with the search for Gabriel. The searches are being coordinated and covering an increasing area but so far no trace has been found.

A highly specialised team of Police Officers from Madrid who deal in serious crime, kidnapping etc are handling the interrogation of a man who was arrested and detained, as he had breached a court order to not go within 200 metres of Gabriels mother. It transpires that he had also disconnected his electronic tag for a period of 5 hours when Gabriel went missing. However, it would seem progress with this man is proving difficult.

As you may have heard on social media a young 8 year old boy Gabriel Cruz Ramirez has been missing from his home in Nijar since 27th February.

It is intended to organise a search of the area near his home in Nijar tomorrow Friday 2nd March and we are looking for volunteers to assist in the search. It is not yet known what the the search will commence but if you have some time to spare please let me know the hour you are available your names, whether you have transport, and your contact telephone number. Either send details to jimszurgena@gmail.com or call 610194260

I will then pass these to the Police and we will make contact later. Transport can be arranged.
