Our council team, under the councillor for Public Works, have been working hard to try and  get round and clear all the tracks affected by the rains.

They still have a few to deal with which they hope to have completed by Wednesday. Sprri for the delay.

Donations to the Nursery and Road Closure

I had the pleasure today of handing over to the Director of the nursery in La Alfoquia €110 (collected and donated by the church of Llanos del Peral).

I also donated on behalf of an english couple a pram and kids bike.

The nursery were most grateful for the donations.

The road over the bridge into Zurgena will be closed starting Monday 30th September for approximately 2 months to facilitate the first phase of the bridge widening scheme. The track across the rambla will be graded to provide an alternate route.

Laying of the First Stone Autovia and Brexit

A ceremony to mark the next stage of the construction of the Autovia, from Cucador to the A7 at Ballabona.

The laying of the first stone is to take place tomorrow at 1000 hours at La Concepcion.

We have also been advised and requested (being a Council with a high percentage of British nationals) to assist the Diputacion in preparations for a no deal Brexit.

We (Zurgena Town Hall) will seek representation on and input to the decision making process with a view to identifying and minimising any negative likely outcomes.

All Town Halls, with high percentages of British Nationals, have been asked to become involved and to assist.

Rubbish AGAIN!

I am seeing an increasing number of complaints about disallowed rubbish being placed at the side of basuras.

Today we issued one fine for this offence but we are seeing increasing incidents.  Whilst the Consorcio (who are responsible for the collection of rubbish) do remove large items from the side of basuras on selected dates (12th and 23rd of each month) they cannot remove builders and garden rubbish. Both these sorts of materials should be taken to the cleaning point in Arboleas or Albox.

The photograph below is one which I received today from Palaces. Does anyone know or better still have any evidence as to who dumped this please so that we can take appropriate action.

Update; We have liaised with the Consorcio regarding Palaces and they are going to arrange extra collections during this week BUT they insist that many times people are not placing or emptying their rubbish bags into the basuras. They do, and will continue to, visit and empty the normal basuras every 2 days. Please help them to help us in keeping our villages tidy. Do not just place rubbish bags at the side of the basuras. Either place in the basura, empty its contents into the basura or take to the next available one. If you see anyone dumping rubbish please report it to us.
The collection of large items is for just that large items NOT  builders rubble, which must be disposed of through  cleaning points such as Arboleas or Albox. Organic material will also be collected every other day.

Gota Fria

The Gota Fria which hit us last night was an extreme event but not as extreme as 2012.

The Town Hall workers have been out since first light trying to clean/clear all the roads in the municipality. Please bear with us as we try to restore everything to normal.

If you have any problems you feel we may not know about please contact us. Please check on any residents you may consider at risk and let us know of any situations requiring assistance.

Trip, Spanish Classes and Table Tennis and a weather warning

The below poster is for a subsidised trip to Archena. Places are limited so please reserve as soon as you can.

Sorry but slight change of plan re Joses Spanish classes.

Due to the fact that some who expressed an interest but then signed up to Manolos in the Library we have decided to leave the start date until Tuesday 1st October at 0900 (not this Tuesday). The option is still open for people to register with Manolo any weekday morning. Otherwise we will see if there is sufficient interest in Jose´s classes.

We now have a brand new Table Tennis table. If anyone is interested in organising to play let me know. We are hoping to organise the table to be in the room below the library for Tuesdays and Thursday between 4.0pm and 7.0pm but waiting confirmation.

The forecast is looking ominous for this week particularly Thursday and Friday for rain.

Bridge Widening and other updates. Family Fun Day

We are now going to start seeing the developement of many projects which we have been working on for some years. The first of these will be the widening scheme for the bridge into Zurgena and the first phase of this should commence this month.

We have also been granted the funds, €700,00 from the EU, to start and replace all the street lighting with the newer low energy bulbs.

We have also got a grant for a new street cleaning machine.

The Mayor is meeting with various people with a view to establishing the new Poligono, near to the motorway.

Other developements and projects will be posted as and when contracts are awarded.

I am looking at organising some more cultural trips for this year and will post when agreed.

I received a number of complaints regarding the Circus. We were put in a  difficult position for this year but we will not be allowing Circuses with live animals in future.

Due to the number of  people who contacted me regarding the initiative which Garrucha had about the maltreatment of animals I can confirm we will have a publicity campaign similar to theirs.

Finally the Church at Llanos Del Peral are to hold a Family Fun Day on Saturday 21st September at 3.0pm. See poster below

Back to Work

Just returned from the UK and will be back in the office tomorrow.

We (the new council) have many things to sort out but rest assured we will work as quickly as we can to progress all actions.
