Pilgrimage to Los Llanos

As is the custom the annual pilgrimage by horses and wagons is to be held on Saturday 6th July. Starts out at 1730 from the Plaza del Carmen in La Alfquia and wends its way through Barrio de Chicago, Cucador, and up to Llanos Del Peral where there is a short service in the church before they continue to the picnic area where sardines are cooked for all the participants.

Incognito Singers Family Night

Posting this on behalf of Incognito Singers.

Just to let you know, we will be opening the doors of our rehearsal room once again for a less formal concert (previously know as a Friends & Family night) where everyone is welcome!

It will be held on Friday 5th July starting 18:00 at Hostal Rosaleda in the function room at the rear.

Free entrance, however we will be holding a raffle with the proceeds going to new choir stage-wear and a retiring collection going to Walk for Life.

The programme will include music for everyone from Phantom of the Opera to Bohemian Rhapsody...

Fiesta Magazine

I have tried to contact all english speaking business owners to see if they want an advert in the Fiesta Magazine for Alfoquias on the 12th to 16th July.

The prices are €20 for a half page or €50 for a full page.

Defibrillator Training

As we informed you all last month, the City Council has acquired two mobile defibrillators, yesterday morning we held a training course in the Town Hall, part theory and practical use of them.

Members of Civil Protection, the Government Team, Local Police, and our Sports Monitor, among others, have received the necessary information to be able to do a CPR and use the defibrillators, if an emergency situation were to occur and in this way be able to save a lifetime.
We hope we do not ever have to use them! 🤞🏻

One has been installed in the Municipal Pavilion "Pascual A. Jiménez Martos" in Zurgena and the other in the Municipal Pool in La Alfoquia

Investiture of New Council

Last Saturday the official swearing in of the new Town Council took place in the Town Hall. We now are in a period of reconstruction of roles etc. This will take a little while and in the meantime they will continue in their existing roles.

The only major change is that as from yesterday I am now the Deputy Mayor. Not a position I really wanted but I will do my best.

Commencement of Process of Consolidation Alfoquia

The Process to start the upgrade of the classification of properties in Alfoquia has started. The below article appeared in th Spanish press yesterday and is the next stage in the process.

The homes listed in this announcement (under their Catastral Reference) will be contacted in the next 2 to 3 weeks by the Town Hall and subsequent to that we will be holding a meeting for all those included in the process where we will explain in detail the process to complete what is needed to elevate your classifications to Urban Consolidated. Your Catastral reference appears on your IBI bill.

Investiture of the New Council

A plenary session of the Town Hall will take place this Saturday at 12 noon. The purpose of the Pleno is to carry out the investiture of the new administration and its council members. The event is open to the public.

Summer School

The registration is open for this years summer school for kids (3 to 12) from the 1st to 31st July 0900 x 1400. Limited places registration to be made at the Town Hall before 21st June. Cost €35

Building Licence Approval

On  a lighter note!
Whilst many parts of Spain have struggled to be able to grant building licences, spare a thought for Antoni Gaudi. He submitted his plans for the modernist masterpiece Sagrada Familia in Barcelona in 1885 but this week his licence has been approved. Only 134 years after application!

That Old Chestnut

Once again I have received complaints about people dumping garden refuse by the side of the basuras. This time the main problem is the area of Avenida Poetas in Llanos del Peral.
As you may have noticed, from our manifesto, that, as we have less than 5,000 population, we do not qualify for a refuse centre but we intend to assign an area in the municipality for garden refuse to be disposed of. In the meantime please take any such refuse to the refuse centre in Arboleas. You can be fined for fly tipping.

Municipal Pool Opening and Post Boxes

We are hoping to open the Municipal swimming pool a little earlier this year. If we get the support of the Junta we intend opening it on the 21st June. We have to recruit a company or individuals to provide lifesaving etc and get the pool ok´d by the technicians but hope to do so in time.

June will probably be starting her aqua classes in the first week but will confirm once everything is sorted.

Whilst I was looking at the availability of post boxes for the Pool Bar area I discovered that we also have underused Buzons in the area of Barrio de Chicago, El Rocio and Canada Herrero. If you live in any of these area and wish to have post delivered contact me and I will sort it out. The Post Office obviously prefer if residents have a proper Postal Box for deliveries. The cost of these boxes is €25 and they work very well.

La Alfoquia Fiesta

I am having many requests for the dates for the La Alfoquia Fiesta, as I think people have family planning holidays.

This years Alfoquia Fiesta is from the 12th to 16th July.
